Located in Hermanus, South Africa, Abagold cultivates abalone in cool Atlantic waters, rich in nutrients. The farm is a prominent local employer and one of the largest abalone producers in the region. Abagold exports its premium abalone, including under an esteemed Chinese trademark.

Abagold has prioritized environmental sustainability since its founding. The initial goal was to protect the South African abalone (Perlemon) from extinction through tank-based breeding.
Abagold was one of the first abalone companies awarded the Friend of the Sea Sustainability Certification (in 2015) and received a global award from the organization in 2022.
The certification covers environmental impact and fair labor practices, such as worker health and safety, no child labor, fair wages, and good working conditions.
Abagold returns clean water to the ocean. The farm uses solar power and batteries, reducing energy use and carbon footprint. Their abalone consume a natural, balanced diet of seaweeds (Kelp, Gracilaria, Ulva) and specialised feed, with no chemicals, antibiotics, or hormones used in farming.
